Mesothelioma and Non Asbestos Exposure Most commonly, mesothelioma develops on the linings of the lungs and abdomen. The rare cancer may also form in the linings of the heart or testes (pericardium). Asbestos is the most significant risk factor for mesothelioma. Certain mesothelioma patients have no history of asbestos exposure.
