The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience that is to be enjoyed by everyone. As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem's capital, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entry point can be found in Refaim Park below Ein Laban. While the northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem about half an hour from the Kerem junction.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and a slew of cyclists attended a ceremony to inaugurate the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

"In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive tourist destination due to its rich past. Elkin stated that the current tourism industry is an integral part of Jerusalem's historical treasures and also incorporates modern tourism. "The inauguration[of] the tunnel project is a different element of the progress of Jerusalem as well as its transformation to an attractive tourist destination for everyone across Israel as well as around the world.

Elkin's ministry, which responsible for the project along with Jerusalem Municipality, stated that his ministry "invests hundreds and millions of shekels every year in all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism and in creating new ventures and attractions that link the amazing historical past of our eternal capital with its future."  נווה פריצקי I would like to invite cyclists to ride along a a well-maintained, modern cycling route overlooking the unique landscape of Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's Ministerial, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 for the project.  נווה פריצקי The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is the central instrument for achieving the vision to change the concept of transportation across Jerusalem," Elkin said.  נווה פריצקי "The new tunnel will connect to the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will connect with the various cycling routes that exist within the city. They will be laid throughout the city's diverse neighborhoods. The objective is to encourage cycling among the residents of Jerusalem.

In the 90s in the 1990s, the Kerem Tunnel was excavated to transfer the main sewer line of Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is now used for infrastructure purposes.  נווה פריצקי It also houses the fifth water line to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water company.

Road construction, installation and testing of electrical and safety systems are just some of the ongoing projects to ensure the tunnel is safe throughout the year.
